This project was designed to increase the use of alternative fueled and advanced technology vehicles in Metro Atlanta as a means of reducing U.S. dependence on imported petroleum, increasing fuel economy, and reducing emissions. The project provided infrastructure that supports the use of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. As a result of the project, the region has gained a landfill gas conversion facility to produce renewable energy at a DeKalb County landfill, five publicly accessible Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling stations, and one upgraded station to accommodate additional CNG fueling capacity. More than 200 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles have also been deployed by Metro Atlanta-based companies, as well as city and county governments. In addition to the environmental and health benefits, this project has helped maintain Atlanta's competitiveness as various groups continue work to attract new businesses and jobs.
